Someone You Should Meet

This time on Someone You Should Meet I am excited to showcase my first Vintage Seller. Since etsy is handmade, vintage or supplies there are a number of them on there. I met Samantha through twitter and upon talking to her knew she was a perfect person to showcase. I am in love with the vintage cameras she has and as soon as my boys are old enough to understand vintage equals DO not Touch or play with I might just get me one! I know that you will love reading about her and looking through her shop even more. So here we go~

Name~ Samantha Marie
shop website~http://SmellyShoesVintage.Etsy.Com

1. What kind of items do you sell in your etsy shop?
Anything and Everything Vintage! From 1940’s Levis Denim, Women’s Ferragamo Heels, and Jewelry from the Boldt Castle Estate, to Handmade dresses from the 70’s! We have lots of Vintage Cameras, Shoes, Clothes, Dresses, Costume Jewelry, and even a section for the Men!

3. What is your favorite part of the selling Vintage?
I absolutely love the hunt for vintage treasures! We go around to Estate Sales, Thrift and Antique Stores, and even the occasional Auction all around Upstate NY. It’s like a hunt for treasure every time!

4. If you have to pick one item in your shop as your Favorite which one would it be?

Do You Tweet? Add a Little More Income with Little Effort

SponsoredTweets referral badge

I wanted to share this with you since I know times are hard and well if you are like me, ever dollar counts. SO if you are already on twitter and using it for business or pleasure you can check this out. You must meet a few requirements, you have to have 200+ followers and your account must be so many days/months old. But besides that really easy peasy way to add to Christmas or Holiday money!
Sponsored Tweets does not spam your friends or followers. You approve the tweets that you want to allow. IT is super easy, it integrated into twitter, you link to your account... this is how it works it
  • Sign Up,~ super easy and it even recommends what you should charge for tweet, I also recommend going with that but check back often because it does increase.
  • You get "Direct Message" DM on your twitter account when you have tweet *you can choose to be e-mail about offer, but I like the DM option.
  • You see who offer is from, check out site, if you like, follow simple instructions. Some want you to write tweet then you submit it for approval or some actually give you the tweet just as they want it.
  • If you are happy and advertiser is happy they use your account to tweet one (to up to 3) times. They take care of sending it out when they want it to go out.
  • You are DM (Direct Messaged) (or e-mailed) again that transaction was complete.
  • They move funds into Sponsored Tweets account for you where you can log in to see you balance.
  • When you reach threshold to cash out they can move to your PayPal account.
SponsoredTweets referral badgeAs I hope I explained, it is super easy and you are not going to lose followers because you are spamming them with Porn sites, you are not spamming with one to three tweets, and you approve, so...no porn, you approve, you know your followers best, so you approve which ones you think fit you.

I Need Your Help With the SAM-e Good Mood Gig

Vote for Me
Good Mood Gig from SAM-e

I have entered the Nature Made SAM-e Complete Good Mood Gig. I ran across this contest late and debated entering when I saw some of people entered had 3000+ votes. But after reading the contest rules and seeing that this was just the first round, and that the top 20 people got to move on to round 2, I decided to give it a shot. I already knew I had an amazing group of friends that would vote and thought maybe I could even get a few to spread the word for me.

Boy was I underestimating my group of friends and their friends! (Sorry for underestimating y'all!) I have been AMAZED, honored and most of all Humbled but the response I have gotten...not just in votes but in comments, in people Retweeting on twitter, reposting on their Facebook profiles, and even e-mailing friends and offering to post my badge on their blog. I have formed my own marketing campaign to try to get enough votes to advance to the next round and have an entire strategy. I know the power of social media and networking, now lets just see if I can tap into it. So far, so good. I have even formed a Facebook group since many people were asking me to remind them daily, since you can vote once a day, and the group helps me organize that.

My heart has been warmed by the responses I have gotten, from simple "I hope you win" to more in depth "I suffer from chronic pain to and you have my support". I am flattered and even embarrassed by the kind and loving words that people have writing about me and I know that, contest or no contest, I have a wonderful group of friends!

I have this badge on the side of my blog so that it is easy to come back to vote, or join Facebook Group, or click here or click on graphic in this post.

Here are the Questions I was asked that of me in Contest

Why are you perfect for this job?

I would be perfect for this job because I walk the walk and talk the talk. Focusing on my "good mood" is imperative to my existence. I am a severe chronic pain patient, due to a failed spinal fusion resulted in pain that is exponentially worse than the original pain the surgery was supposed alleviate. Depression and anxiety are as near as my own nervous system. On a daily basis, I challenge myself to liberate my thoughts from the tyranny of self-centered thought. I have found that when I share my plight and my positive attitude that I desperately try to stay focused on, that I help others It is feeding into an energy that once you start to contribute to you it you are able to tap into it for inspiration or strength. I focus on goals of action, and goals of behavior. When I achieve those goals, the positive feedback I receive from the people in my circle of life provides my motivation for the following day. I articulate my thoughts through my online activity in the hope that they will be of service to others. I live by sharing my joy.

How do you maintain your good mood naturally?

I practice positive thinking and remind myself that I am in control of my own experiences. I have the power to Make it a Great Day and will not surrender that power to anyone. At some times, it is harder to Make it a Great Day than it is at other times. Still, there is always something one can find in the course of a day to be grateful for. Living in constant chronic pain it is very important for my attitude to be in adjustment and not to let depression and anxiety (which I call the "evil cousins" of chronic pain) set in. I also have an amazing group of friends, many online, who constantly make me smile. I STRONGLY believe in practicing random acts of kindness and doing something nice for someone else. These two things Pay back way more than they cost to give. Sometimes, just sharing a smile can brighten someones day and, amazingly, brighten your day as well.

This positive thinking and living is not something I started practicing to win a contest, IT IS the why I have to live, here are a few earlier post that kind of highlight my attitude that I wanted to share...
These are from my other blog Southern Handmade Gifts

MAKE it a Good Day

You Have to WANT IT

Ready and Willing

Thank you so much!

craftyGAgal Leaves GA!

Yes it is true... I mixed a little business with pleasure and blew this Popsicle Stand for IZEAfest 09. I had a blast and well now I am home and trying to catch up. I wanted to take a minute, drop in and let everyone know I was not missing, did return home from trip and got NEW jewelry coming your way. I have a big show tomorrow and will be listing after that so I will know what I have in stock. I hope that all my readers, customers and friends are doing well and are starting to think about the upcoming holidays. I, myself, have decided I am not waiting till last minute this tear and have already started my lists. I am hoping to get everything that I have made...which is a LOT... huge afghans, scraves, hars, jewelry golore listed within the next week or two. I am itching to make new designs. Right now I am working on 2 of the pumpkin hats that have sold. I love making them and know my customers will LOVE them too.
Here are a few pictures ..I have done several post with on my different blogs with pictures.. these pictures here are different... For this post I am only using pictures by Francisco Jose Palacio. Follow him on twitter where he is @FJPalacio. These pictures were taken at The ICEBAR Orlando.

Wanna Know Why I Am Excited?

I am super excited... for a lot of reason. The best is what I felt when I walked outside this morning to take the kids to school- COLD AIR! It is finally starting to show signs of fall here in South Georgia. Now if I know GA I know we are not done with the heart- it loves us and has a hard time leaving each year and usually starts to go several times before it actual Gets Gone! I am excited to get out a new wardrobe, to light a fire in the fire place (yes I am one of those people that light it the first change I get, even if by the end of the night I have the AC on), for the boys to get outside time playing without coming in after 10-15 minutes because it is miserably hot and humid, and EXCITED to list my AFGHANS and the rest of my fall/winter items. I do have a few up like some hats and a scarf (as of writing this) but I have not gone gun-ho ...well for a couple reasons, one being it was like 100 degrees here, and well mainly because of time...no matter where I look, I have searched etsy, Wal-Mart even Craig's List... I can not find where to buy more hours for the day- anyone with a lead, let me know! I have several, guesstimating about 7, big afghans...and I mean some are HUGE... one is 9o x 60 -That is OVER 7 FEET LONG! These blankets/afghans have many many hours and many more hours, a ton of yarn and a lot of LOVE in them! I plan on having everything that I have already made- fall/winter crochet wise by the end of next week because of the next reason I am excited....
Tomorrow I leave for IZEAFest at SeaWorld 2009 in Orlando... not only is it in Orlando AT SeaWorld but there is a ton of neat neat stuff planned... you can read all about it on my other blog Southern Handmade Gifts in the post It's A Lot of Work to Have Fun and also in the post Getting Ready for IZEAfest 2009. I am excited to meet all my twitter and Facebook friends and make new friends. There is going to be a ton of great information for all the great speaker and AWESOME night time activities.. you have to go read my blog post to find out...really really awesome places. I am getting jewelry ready today to take down there with me... I am holding a few contests not only from craftyGAgal Creations and also from Dylan Blue. Follow me on twitter to find out more, you do not have to be at IZEAFest .. I am setting aside a special giveaway for someone that is not able to attend.
Those are the two main reasons I am excited but also adding the icing to my cupcake are some sales on etsy...one for a man who is buying a stained glass pendant for his daughter...he was very diligent in picking out the PERFECT piece for her...everyone say "Awwww" and a custom order for one of my newly listed PUMPKIN PIE Hat (which is my travel project I am taking to IZEAFest). Also I am working on a order to go to an Country Type Antique Gift Mart up in north GA... it is for scarves, hats, and some of my stained glass mosaic picture frames that are very county/folk art and will fit right in (I have yet to even photography them yet). Oh and I am working on some beanie hats for some of the guys at my church that are down on their luck and some stay outside ... think I will take the yarn to make one of those to IZEAFest too. Having a list of planned projects make me excited!

Pictures ARE Here!!

Hello! Sorry for the absence y'all...funny because that is the way about 7 notes have started this last few weeks to my twins school. They have been swapping a fever for over 2 weeks now. I am wore out and I know my parents out there can relate it is pitifully watching your children be sick. It has been a month of Dr. visits with one or the other one.... allergies, virus, then just TELL me why they are not getting better, still have fever and will you please give me an antibiotic now Please... so that is where are are now, still had one out today with a fever and tomorrow is iffy... but he is on meds. The other twin has had to tough it out, fever seems to be gone and I am still treating symptoms, running nose, cough, just miserable for my little troops.
With things semi back on track I am getting back to etsy with determination to finish listing what I have and really gear up for Christmas.

I got a great package in the mail today... I sent some pieces to a photographer that I met on etsy for her to use in a photos for a book that she is doing to be released in 2010 with the theme of "Alice in Wonderland". When she asked I was flattered....when I checked out her website I was BLOWN AWAY and really excited. I was so not disappointed. Her pictures are just sensational, her talent blisteringly apparent and well I will just show you the ones that she did for the book. You can see that one model is wearing a purple rectangle piece but it is wider instead of longer... and the other is wearing a n amber piece with milky streaks... it might be hard to see them but I can and well am flattered that they were used as part of setting a photo so beautiful and that it is going into a book with credit given to me for jewelry!
Got check out Chelsea Wilde Site New Resolution Photo- go grab a cup of coffee or tea first because you are gonna wanna look for a bit, each shot, be it nature or fashion is so beautiful and intriguing. Enjoy!
Oh another that are from that shot for the book... which by the way was shot in the Salt Flats of Utah! Stayed tuned for some Fashion shot she did for me for my portfolio!

Smiles and Pumpkin Hats

Smile.....I type it in e-mails, on Twitter, even keep it on my screen saver as a constant reminder to do it~ TO SMILE! I would like to share a few of my favorite sales & customers, in this and future posts, that make what I do what I LOVE. All my sales are special but every now and then there are a few that touch my heart and stick with me.....these stories that accompany these sales are the Reason I love to craft/create and then share it with all of you. It is the little notes, the glowing reviews, and the joy my handmade treasures make people that make me feel like what I do is kind of like in the business of making people happy~ how cool is that!

The one I choose to start off with has to be one of my all time favorite sales. This sale took place last year when I was then selling on eBay. Not only was Sarah Tisdale a delight to do business with but I think I got just as much out of this sale as she did ~such as ~ a great satisfaction and the knowledge that my handmade treasure played such a special role in something Special to Sarah. I made this hat- a pumpkin hat that was just too cute. I knew it would make a cute picture on some baby but never expected what I got back. Sarah bought the hat and shared with me that she was making a calendar of her Cute enough to eat son Chase Tisdale for the Grandparents as a Christmas present. She was having each month a different theme and my pumpkin hat was gonna be used for October. She said she would let me see the pictures when they were finished...and she kept her word. and I was shocked at how incredible cute these pictures turned out. She gave me permission to share them with you. Here is CUTIE PIE~ Pumpkin Pie ~ Chase!

These adorable pictures were taken by Jessica Lake Photography at www.inchbyinchphotography.com I have looked at her site and her talent is beyond words....believe she is located in California...so if you are in that area and looking for some GREAT pictures, just click on her name for link.

This is the sweet message that Chase's Sweet mother Sarah sent me~

"It makes me smile knowing that Chase's pumpkin hat was made by such a special woman. ......And your sweet little hat made October my favorite month." ~ NOW that is what I love...read responses like that t my work. To this day Chase Tisdale and his Sweet Mom Sarah remain one if not my favorite client! Thanks Sarah & Chase!!! If you would like to order a pumpkin hat for your pumpkin or someone you know...it truly is a great gift and as you can see, with very little, just a few real pumpkins it can make the most adorable pictures. You can contact me on here through comment, send me a convo through etsy at my etsy shop craftyGAgal Creations or Facebook....haha let me count the ways, right?
I am planning on listing them in my shops real soon but to secure your hat, I thought I would give my loyal blog readers first shot at orders!

Someone You Should Meet

It is time again for someone I want to share with you. I have two requirements when looking for someone to showcase, I like their items/product/design and I like them as a person...and Heather is all of that and more. She is super friendly, EXTREMELY Talented and her jewelry is the kind you just want to wear Everyday. After meeting and reading Heather's blog I can tell that she puts a extraordinary amount of time into her designs...she see designs, she makes them, you can tell She Loves Them and I know YOU WILL TOO (I DO!)!!!!

Name~ Heather Braun of Dalkullan Jewelry
shop website~http://www.DalkullanJewelry.etsy.com
blog website~http://www.DalkullanJewelry.blogspot.com
Facebook business page~http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dalkullan-Jewelry/71569496575

1. What kind of handmade items do you sell in your etsy shop?
I design and craft jewelry -- necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

2. Explain your craft/art for people who may not be familiar with it?
I started out tak
ing beads and findings and assembling them into jewelry. Findings are things like clasps, earwires, and jump rings. I'd get an idea of how I wanted something to look which I couldn't do with manufactured findings, and began doing some wire wrapping. That only whetted my appetite to begin fabricating components from sheet metal. I began acquiring more and more tools; a torch, tumbler, files, jeweler's saw, and then the quantum leap occurred when I took a metalworking class from Joe Silvera. Now I'm completely fabricating my latest pieces from sheet metal and wire, and it's a lot of fun. I do have some plans to make more beaded jewelry, too. I've got a gorgeous stash of beads that want to be made into jewelry.

3. What is your favorite part of the creative process?
Making the jump between designing a piece on paper, and actually creating it out of metal. It's amazing to me to look at my drawings and the finished piece together, it's a real "Wow, I actually make this" moment.

4. If you have to pick one item in your shop as your Favorite which one would it be?
(pictured above)
The last thing I've made always has a special place in my heart, but they're all dear to me. Since I must pick one, it'd be the Noir Necklace.
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=24954154

5. Where do you hope to see your etsy shop in 1 yr?
I'd like to be making a few sales a week, and hopefully begin making a profit in a year. I'd love to use gemstones in my designs, learning how to set stones is definitely on the agenda, and also incorporating some gold into my designs.
There are new techniques I'd like to learn, granulation and metal forming on stakes. I've got ideas for new designs I'd like to implement. I'd also like to increase my tool stash, more types of hammers, a rolling mill, stakes, another torch, and a lovely jeweler's bench.
6. Is etsy the only place people can find you online?
I've dabbled on a couple other online venues, but Etsy is my only active shop. I really like Etsy, it's not perfect, but it's a wonderful site, and I'm planning on being on Etsy for a long time. The staff at Etsy are just tops, and I've learned so much from their emails and of course the Forums and Storque are awesome!

I think that Heather will be doing a WHOLE LOT MORE that a few sales a month come this time next yr. Mark my word... want proof, go check out her Signature "LIFESAVER EARRINGS"

Her Shop is FULL of eye candy, HAHA, get it , lifesavers, candy ,haha.... but seriously it is.

Lookie What I Made

To understand the back story to this bracelet that I made for myself, from some GORGEOUS GREEN AMETHYST, you have to go read the previous post "Lookie What I Got". I added some Bali Silver Fish- Two that are Kissin'- and I used two fish with my Amethyst, which is my birthstone because I am also a Pieces, a few pretty purple amethyst with awesome white chevron pattern on them, some sterling silver beads and a sterling silver clasp. I am so in love with the way it turned out, honored that my dear friend sent them to me and even more touched that she is my friend. I call my NEW FAVORITE Bracelet (shhh don't tell the hubby he has bought me some gorgeous diamond bracelets but this one is MY FAVORITE Hands Down) "Kissing Fish"

Lookie What I Got!

Hello Friends, I have been dying to share this with y'all for a couple days now, but I have had one issue after another, starting with my USB cord breaking off in my camera. I will spare y'all the Good run of BAD luck I had after that, but all is well , my photo uploading capabilities are Back!!! Look what I got in the mail from a DEAR, SWEET friend. I am going to do a blog post on her coming up, so for now I am not gonna link to her shops, BUT I wanted to show you my surprise. She sent me some GREEN AMETHYST... we were talking jewelry one day, I know BIG SURPRISE THERE, and she commented that she was using Green Amethyst in a piece and I had never seen any "green" amethyst, which is my birthstone and one of my all time FAVORITES. She said they were gorgeous, I asked her to take a picture and she is such a SWEETHEART, she just sent me what was left over. I am so glad she sent them because I see now that their Beautiful color does not begin to translate to a photo. I was so proud of them, plus my first parcel from Thailand, I took pictures to share with y'all.
I LOVE THEM, don't you? What is SO Special, is that not only did this dear friend send them to me, but she also teaches me so much. She is one of the MANY Special people that have come into my life lately that I know were Heaven Sent! She has been stressing the importance of loving me, and looking out for me, like I would for my best friend or my kids. WOW Such a simple concept, yet when she said it I was like, oh my, she has got a point. SO in honor of this simple yet so important fact that she has opened my eyes to, I am making ME something out of these beauties, which is something I rarely do. I know it seems funny, the woman who makes the pretty jewelry never makes herself something. I will post a picture of what I make when I am done. Thanks A.S.

When Do You Start To List Items for the Fall/Winter Season?

I have a question maybe y'all can help me with....
This is my first year selling on etsy and my therefore my first FALL/WINTER season. I have a ton ready to listing including hats, scarves, afghans and wrist warmer...and I am itching to know when is the right time to list them? I started listing hats but made them inactive because with the way etsy is right now you can rearrange your inventory (although I hear through the etsy Labs they are working on it) and they are all right in the front & while it is 100 degrees here in GA I thought they looked way out of place.
I have read about people who sell throughout the year due to international sales coming from cooler weather but I have yet to make an international sale so I was not catering to that group. I will after they are listed probably keep what does not sell during this time in, especially if the option to rearrange is available due to the fact that I would like to sell international.
I would love to hear y'all ideas on this matter.
So my question is~ when do you start to list fall/winter items in your shop/site/online shop?

New Creations

I wanted to take a minute to show y'all what I have been working on lately. These are part of a large custom order so I was a little sad that y'all would not see them...so I thought I would show y'all anyway. I plan on making a few of the ones here to list in my etsy shop, the ones that I have enough materials. I am in love with several of these pieces and really hope y'all like them too.
I would LOVE to hear which you like the best or are you favorite...it helps me to keep up with my customers/ friends taste!

So without anymore from me...

My jewelry has mostly consisted of basic bead and chain designs, however I have recently started learning metal and wire work.

3. What is your favorite part of the creative process?
The whole process is so much fun for me. I get an idea in my head and I search through my supplies (which kind of feels like shopping) then finding just the right pieces and working on the design. tweaking to make it work is sometimes a challenge and I don't know a single craftsperson who doesn't like a challenge, but the end result is truly what makes me happy.

4. If you have to pick one item in your shop as your Favorite which one would it be? Amos this would be my favorite

5. Where do you hope to see your etsy shop in 1 yr?
In one year I hope that people will know about me and my shop. I hope that I will have more knowledge of different styles of jewelry to bring to my shop as well

No I also sell these places~ Art Fire and my own site ~ a work in progress Elizabeth M Designs

Anyone who knows my knows that I love saying... "The reason I love my computer IS because my friends LIVE in it"...and I never felt this more than recently with the some of the GREAT friends I have made online.
Second I was surprised and absolutely delighted to get an e-mail from an etsy seller named CantaloupeCorner letting me know that she featured a pair of my stained glass earrings in her "My Etsy Faves!" as #2! These are the earrings and you can find them listed here. Thanks Cataloupe Corner...y'all head on over and check out her shop and her blog. Thanks again for that, it made my day!

The Process of Making Stained Glass Jewelry

What Goes Into Making Stained Glass Jewelry?
I love making stained glass jewelry. There is something about the process with its many many steps done in a certain order that I find comforting. I usually make a "batch" a setting. A "batch" usually consist of 20-30 pieces. I try to finish the batch in one day...but sometimes I break it into two days. I would love to share the steps with y'all.

The Process of Making Stained Glass Jewelry
1. I pick my glass, hold it up to the light to see what piece I want to cut.
2. I clean the glass (this in one of tons of cleanings the glass gets).
3. I score the glass with a glass cutter that has a carbide wheel.
4. I break the glass running pliers (sometime I use a grozier, which are flat nosed, soft metal pliers).
5. I grind the glass with a diamond bit on a grinder that grinds at a high speed. Grinding does two things, it take the sharp edge off and it is used to obtain the desired shape.
6. Clean glass which is covered in residue and glass bits.
7. Wrap the edges of the glass with copper foil.
8. Apply flux (which is what makes the solder stick to the foil).
9. Apply the lead free solder on one side.
10. I let cool, that is why working in a batch is good because I can continue to work while they cool
11. Repeat process to other side, including appling more flux
12. Solder the bail/ hoop on
13. Clean
14. I polish with silver polish to remove flux residue and make it shiny and pretty
15. I clean it Yet Again.

As you can see
it is a time consuming and very detailed process. In the future I will photograph the steps to maybe break it down for those of you who might want to know more.
Thanks for leting me share part of my passion with you.

Someone You Should Meet

I am fortunate enough to have met and become friends with a very sweet and kind hearted woman named Ana. Not only is she sweet and kind hearted and all that special stuff BUT she is an artist who absolutely amazes me with her skills. She makes gorgeous doll hats...okay I will be honest, when we first met I knew she was talented because her doll hats are pretty beyond words, but I thought she was a decorating genius. I pictured a box of hats coming to Ana's house and her decorating each one lovingly....WELL....I was right , she is a decorating genius, but when talking to Ana one day, I sat there in Amazement as she described the process of how she makes the hats from SCRATCH, rolling the genuine horsehair, using a mold.... I knew then I had to share her with y'all.

First I start with very vintage straw from Switzerland, then I choose the style of the hat, then the creation starts, making a hat takes me anywhere from one to two hours and after I finish creating the hat with the straw you have to let it sit for 24 hours to dry, then I start with the decoration process which also takes me an hour or two, that also requires another 6 to 8 hours to settle and dry.

The decorating creativity, I love mixing flowers & ribbons to create a unique look.
